Forest Schools
Forest Schools is a fun and innovative way to provide outdoor and woodland play opportunities for children, young people and adults. It is a concept based on a Scandinavian model which has been thriving here since the 1990s. Forest School sessions are designed to inspire participants and to deliver activities which suit their learning styles and abilities. Wild Wood Activities believes that every child and adult should achieve at forest schools and go home feeling proud of their time in the outdoors.

What happens at a Wild Wood Activities Forest School?
The group meet at the beginning of the session and walk into their Forest school site, this is accompanied by a transition activity to get them into a ‘woodland mood’. The session may have a theme such as ‘woodland explorers’, the ‘Green man’, going to Hogwarts, woodland survival and activities will be developed along those themes.
The individuals in the group can work at their own pace and are involved in a mixture of creative, active and quiet games and activities to suit their learning styles. There is a break for lunch or a snack (depending on session length), this may take place around the fire, sitting on a circle of logs or mats. There is time during the session for the group to explore around them and to share with others their discoveries, members of the groups may also wish to lead or initiate an activity during the session as their confidence grows. The session finishes with time for reflection and made objects are taken home to continue the reviewing process when away from the Forest School space, enabling participants to share their experiences in their wider circle.
How long are Forest School projects?
Forest School projects vary in length and time per session depending on group need and, often, timetabling! The Wild Wood Activities Forest School package (see Wild Wood Activities Forest School Package page) is based on a 6 week project with the participants coming out for either half a day or a full day per week.
Where Do Forest Schools take place?
Wild Wood Activities can run a Forest School project from one of the woodland sites that we currently work from, from a site/ parkland space near you (dependent on landowner’s permission), or run a project in your school grounds (providing there is some tree/ woodland cover). The Wild Wood Activities package does NOT include transport to site.
